Block Print Scarves MakerLab @ Winnipeg Art Gallery

You will use mineral mordants (dye fixative) as a block printing medium and natural dyes to create a one-of-a-kind fabric scarf. Prior to the hands-on portion of the class, Tamara will explain what mordants and natural dyes are, and how they work together to create unique effects on fabric.

Shibori Tea Towel Workshop @Manitoba Fibre Festival


In this workshop, you will learn how to make indigo-dyed tea towels using Shibori, an ancient method of resist dyeing.  We will cover a variety of techniques of folding and binding cloth to create different patterns, as well as learn how to set up and dye with an indigo vat.  You will go home with three finished tea towels and the skills to dye many more pieces on your own.

Pembina Fibreshed Natural Dyeing Workshop

Learn to add beautiful colours to natural fibres using  plant dyes in this workshop with textile artist Tamara Klassen. Participants will process samples of cotton, silk, linen, and wool in dye baths prepared with plant material grown in southern Manitoba. You will go home with a journal record of your work and the knowledge to carry on your own dye projects in the future.

This workshop will take place at the Pembina Hills Arts Centre in Morden
