Natural Dyeing Workshop @ Collective Workshop

Come and explore the process of bundle dyeing with natural dyes.  In this workshop you’ll learn about natural dyes and mordants and find out what plants and food waste work best to dye with.  We’ll also learn how to bundle dye (sometimes known as eco-printing) on fabric and each student will make their own silk scarf.

Indigo Dye Party @ Collective Workshop

Dye party! Bring up to 5 small - medium sized pieces of clothing or linens and dye them in an indigo vat.  Shibori tools and assistance will be provided but please note this is not an in depth shibori/indigo class. Rather, a time for those who have already attended one of our workshops with Tamara and would like to experiment dyeing different items or anyone else looking to dye/have a fun creative time! Great items to bring include shirts, pillow cases & small pieces of fabric made of natural fibres (cotton, linen, wool), please leave the duvet covers and towels at home this time.  Make sure all items are freshly washed (even if they are new!)

Pembina Fibreshed Natural Dyeing Workshop

Learn to add beautiful colours to natural fibres using  plant dyes in this workshop with textile artist Tamara Klassen. Participants will process samples of cotton, silk, linen, and wool in dye baths prepared with plant material grown in southern Manitoba. You will go home with a journal record of your work and the knowledge to carry on your own dye projects in the future.

This workshop will take place at the Pembina Hills Arts Centre in Morden

Shibori Dyeing Workshop @ PHAC

Learn the art of Shibori, an ancient Japanese method of resist dyeing.  Class will cover a variety of techniques by folding and binding cloth to create different patterns, as you learn how to set up and dye with an indigo vat.

Each person will dye 3 cotton tea towels
